My Event:
Event Name: Runways Merge: a fashion opera extravaganza
Event Date: 08/12/2010
Event Location: Edgartown MA
On August 12, 2010, Martha's Vineyard fashion designer Stina Sayre (www.stinasayre.com) will take the concept of the fashion runway in a new direction with a stellar fashion show, Runways merge: a fashion opera extravaganza, at the Martha's Vineyard Airport in Edgartown, Massachusetts. The event is a dual-benefit for local performing arts company, The Yard (www.dancetheyard.org), and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, with net proceeds divided between the two organizations.
On the heels of the successful garden party Fashion Show last summer, Stina Sayre is preparing to take off in a new direction, figuratively, with the fashion show at the airport. She is coordinating the evening with Wendy Taucher, Artistic Director for The Yard, and no stranger to boundary-expanding performances. With the 2010 show, Ms. Sayre is looking to expand the traditional concept of the fashion show with the unorthodox location and by enveloping the crowd with opera singers' voices.
"One of the key elements to this season's show," says Stina "is having a backdrop to the show that guides the theme of the show, both in the inspiration for my designs, as well as in the selection of the music and other artistic pieces."
The evening will begin with a brief cocktail party at 6:30 pm; followed by the show at 7:00 pm. Guests will enjoy a remarkable evening of fashion combined with the rich overtones of opera and philanthropy. Ticket prices start at $200 and can be purchased by calling the Yard (508) 645-9665 or stopping by Stina Sayre's studio in Vineyard Haven. Please join us in the fight against Parkinson's disease. By supporting our Team Fox efforts, you are helping The Michael J. Fox Foundation achieve its mission to bring better treatments and, ultimately, a cure to people living with Parkinson's disease.
Why Team Fox?
An estimated one million people in the United States and over five million worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease.
In the United States, 60,000 new cases of PD will be diagnosed this year alone.
There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Currently available treatments temporarily mask symptoms while the disease continues to progress.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda. MJFF is committed to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. As the largest nonprofit funder of PD research worldwide, MJFF works to identify and prioritize scientific solutions that hold promise to improve patient's quality of life.
Together we can cross the finish line in the race for a cure.
