My Event:
Event Name: The Annual OBX CruZ for the Cure of Parkinson's Disease
Event Date: 04/30/2010
Event Location: New Bern NC
This year's Annual OBX CruZ was a big success. We had about 125 cruZers to attend with one coming from Washington State, several from Texas and others from New York, Conn., Michigan, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and many from North Carolina. Our Friday night began at the host hotel, the Comfort Suites of New Bern, NC with a grant reception in the Bears Den, followed by a "downeast pig picking" on the banks of the Neuse River. After dinner we had out silent auction and the "Annual Three Buck Chuck Wine Challenge" ending the evening. Highlights of the auction were the sale of my custom built fishing rod, going for $450 to Peyton Green of Smith Mountain Lake, Va. Video of the sale is posted on my web page WWW.OBXCRUZ.COM.
Saturday morning the CruZers visited numerous local businesses in New Bern looking for clues to questions to solve the "Run, Walk, and Waddle Road Rally." The rally ended at River Dunes and dined at the Harbor Club on grilled chicken, burgers & brats. The afternoon was completed with music and dancing around the pool from the beach music band, the Four Knights.
It was then back to our hotel for dinner then music from Ms. Jann Parker from New York at the local Jazz Festival. Her performance brought down the house.
Sunday morning found many of the cruZers heading home. About 60 joined cruZers joined Claire & me on a convoy to wonderful lunch served on the water of Core Sound at Harker's Island on our Outer Banks. We also visited the Cape Lookout Seashore Museum and the Core Sound Duck Decoy Museum ending our weekend.
Plans are under way for next years cruZ to be held at the Hilton Garden Inn at Kitty Hawk, NC, on Ap 1, 2, & 3, 2011. See you there!
Please join me in the fight against Parkinson's disease. By supporting my Team Fox efforts, you are helping The Michael J. Fox Foundation achieve its mission to bring better treatments and, ultimately, a cure to people living with Parkinson's disease.
Why Team Fox?
An estimated one million people in the United States and over five million worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease.
In the United States, 60,000 new cases of PD will be diagnosed this year alone.
There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Currently available treatments temporarily mask symptoms while the disease continues to progress.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda. MJFF is committed to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today. As the largest nonprofit funder of PD research worldwide, MJFF works to identify and prioritize scientific solutions that hold promise to improve patient's quality of life.
Together we can cross the finish line in the race for a cure.
